Chocolate has always been a significant part of my life. As a child, I recall going on family trips, during which my mother always sought the nearest chocolate shop to buy high-quality treats. It did not matter where we traveled; she could find them. She was a pro even before this information was just a click away.

We always had treats in the house, but store-bought was reserved for emergencies only. To this day, my parents still consistently have chocolate in the house; in fact, mine is now included. Knowing how picky they are, I am honored that my candies made the cut.

The moment that really kickstarted my love for making chocolate treats was around Christmas time. One year, we decided to make only homemade gifts for the adults. A homemade gift exchange seemed like the best choice for us adults with little ones trying to be economical.

I bake Christmas cookies every year and use my homemade caramel for one of my cookie recipes. Typically, I have quite a bit of caramel left over that I usually give away. That particular year, I used the leftover caramel to make homemade turtle candies for everyone.

I ran into one issue. I didn’t have enough of the original chocolate I planned to use for my turtles and had to improvise by mixing a few different chocolates I had on hand. It resulted in a slightly different flavor profile. Well, it didn’t matter because both batches were a hit! I didn’t realize everyone would love them so much. With this positive feedback from several of my favorite chocolate snobs, I couldn’t help but dive deeper into chocolate candy making and uncover a genuine passion within myself.

Fast forward to today, as a mother and a registered nurse, I’ve always believed in the power of small joys—whether it’s a warm hug, a kind word, or, of course, a delicious piece of chocolate. I must have picked up the habit of always keeping chocolate at home from my parents (and thank goodness, because it saved me with my first homemade turtle candies)! What started as a little quirk transformed into a creative outlet and quickly became a passion. How can I resist blending my love for creativity and baking into handcrafted chocolates that bring joy to every bite?
